Let’s Talk Positive Affirmations

Affirmations are encouraging statements that can help you challenge limiting beliefs, self-sabotaging and negative thoughts.

I am trying my best. I choose to be happy today. I am fearless. I am focused on my goals. Imagine your mindset if you told yourself positive words everyday or anytime you felt down.

Positive affirmations do not change what is going on in your life or future but help to create a more constructive mindset, which could lead to you making changes. They help you decrease negative thoughts and feelings about yourself, others, and the world around you along with feelings of anger, anxiety and frustration. This works when you replace negative thoughts with more positive or realistic ones. Each time you replace a negative thought or belief you slowly start to change your overall thinking to more positive and productive.

A negative thought you have of “I will never be successful” after a failure can impact your feelings of self-worth, your ability to regulate your emotions and motivation to continue to work for the things you want. Using a positive affirmation for this negative thought can help you change your view on the situation and your future actions.
So instead of: "I will never be successful"

You can use a positive affirmation to help you improve your self-worth
“I am stronger than my problems.”

You can use a positive affirmation to help you cope with your negative emotions
“It is ok be disappointed, but this feeling is not permanent.”

You can use a positive affirmation to help you increase motivation to work towards success
“Everything I do, no matter if it is a failure or success, will lead me to where I need to be.”

Positive affirmations are used in many different settings such as therapy, yoga and meditation. Positive affirmations are not seen as cure, but a coping skill to help you manage overall mental health symptoms.

There are many ways to include positive affirmations into your daily life, some of the easiest are:

Create a Positive Affirmation Morning Routine

  • Write a positive affirmation note and stick it somewhere you will see when you start your day and say it to yourself 3 times each morning

  • Write down specific positive affirmations that combat any negative thought or belief you have when you wake up

Listen to a Positive Affirmation Meditation

  • Download a meditation app that has positive affirmations to your phone

  • Listen to a positive affirmation meditation on YouTube

Leave yourself Positive Affirmation Notes

  • Leave positive affirmation notes around your house or work area

  • Save a positive affirmation on your phone screen

At first it can be hard or feel uncomfortable telling yourself positive affirmations that challenge negative beliefs or thoughts that you have carried with you for some time. However, the more you practice the easier it becomes to say it to yourself and hopefully the positive affirmation feels more true than the negative beliefs and thoughts you have.

And you can always tell yourself: I have the power to change my thoughts.

What positive affirmation do you need to hear today?
